- Hypertext Markup Language. The mechanism used to create Web pages; Web browsers display these pages according to a browser-defined rendering scheme.
- Hypertext
- Method of interlinking documents with clickable text (usually underlined and color-coded) so that users can go from one page to another.

- Java
- Object-oriented programming language created by Sun Microsystems that allows browsers to run Java programs (Applets) on a web page.
- JavaScript
- A simplified form of Sun Microsystems' Java which is often written directly into the HTML code of a web page.
- MIME
- Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension. MIME types identify different data types over the internet like text, sound, graphics, video.
- Netscape Navigator
- A web browser created by Netscape Communications Inc. Currently the most popular web browser.
- Perl
- Practical Extraction and Reporting Language.
- Plug-In
- A software application to enhance web browser capabilities by allowing third party developer functions on a web page.

- File format for a PostScript file.
- .ps.Z
- File format for a compressed PostScript file, for UNIX.
- QuickTime
- A digital video and sound format developed by Apple Computer that allows video clips to be displayed on the World Wide Web.
- sea.hqx
- File format for a self-extracting compressed Macintosh archive.
- Shockwave
- A multimedia technology that permits animations developed in Macromedia Director to be played over the web. To view Shockwave-enhanced pages, the viewer's browser requires a free plug-in.

- File format for a UNIX archive file.

- File format for a compressed UNIX archive file.
- URL
- Uniform Resource Locator. The scheme for addressing on the Web.
- VRML
- Virtual Reality Modeling Language. A mechanism of viewing and creating 3D scenes or objects on a web browser.
- WWW
- World Wide Web or just simply Web. A global subset of the Internet containing a network of computers able to transfer text and multimedia in web pages viewed in browsers.

- File format for a compressed Windows archive.
